Guided by the our strict budget of $500 USD the recommended camera here provides great value for money in terms of suitability for current professional quality, practices and standards. Falling just under the $500 budget means we may not be able to buy any other gear such as a tripod, flash, and photo-editing software.
Fortunately, the free native software available for Canon cameras may suffice, especially if you are a “purist”. However, for most commercial photography, or even fine-art photography, a little photo-editing beyond what is possible with the free Canon software may be a necessity.

Amongst the things that convinced me that this camera is a good option for student photographers is that it actually provides settings with details in the the form of tips, I can’t recall this approach in my experience using other cameras.
